What's in an Eye Pad?

Lavender

Often utilised in aromatherapy, lavender essential oil promotes relaxation and is believed to treat a whole range of ailments including anxiety, allergies, depression, insomnia, eczema, nausea, and menstrual cramps to name a few. The Eye Pads use of the dry lavender allows for a cushiony weight with the essential oil producing a well rounded fragrance. The ingredient produces a calming aroma to ease your mind and put you into a state of tranquility.

Chamomile

Chamomile is another aroma that promotes relaxation of both the mind and the body. ‘Research studies show that chamomile relaxes emotions, muscles, and even brain waves. It eases the emotional ups and downs of PMS, menopause, and hyperactivity in children. It also helps control the pain of bruises, stiff joints, headaches, sore muscles, menstrual and digestive system cramping (Keville, Kathy).

Adzuki Beans

An important ingredient, the adzuki beans provide the weight to the eye mask which gives the sensation of a light massage. The weight of the mask soothes strain on your eyes as well as promoting deep sleeping. Having a deeper sleep allows you to have a greater chance of boosting the REM stage in your sleep cycle which in turn improves your mood. Contrary to other popular weighted eye masks that utilise foam or glass beads, the adzuki beans are a natural alternative that is not only heatable but also when you feel like the Eye Pad has run its course the Eye Pad can even be composted.

How to use and when

The EyePad is simple to use, place over your eyes after or during meditation, after a yoga session or before you go to bed for the night. To heat the Eye Pad, you can microwave the eye mask with a glass of water for 30 seconds. Make sure not to overheat and to check the temperature before placing over eyes.

Why we love it at JAU

Saki from JAU loves to use the Eye Pad to wind down at the end of the day~ She usually doesn't like to use aroma tools too often due to disliking an overly strong herbal scent, however, she says that the EyePad is not overpowering and has just the right amount of an aroma to let her transport to a dreamlike state. Saki states ‘It’s like someone put their hands on my eyes and I can feel a good amount of pressure like a massage. When I put on the Eye pad, a fresh floral and a mint-like scent comes through my nose so that I can breathe deeply’.
