On April 1st, MIA MIA Cafe in Higashi-Nagasaki, Tokyo, celebrates its 5th anniversary, while cultural kiosk I AM marks its 4th! As part of the festivities, I AM will host a Spring Market featuring special collaborations, including JAU’s exclusive set of art posters and Tribe Earth incense samples. This unique set also includes a playlist curated by JAU’s Sonny, bringing Australian ambient music to the experience. Stop by MIA MIA for a Nice Latte and chat with the friendly locals and staff!

Starting Friday, March the 21st, we will be holding a collaboration pop-up store between Sydney interior design brand, Studio Henry Wilson, and Perth-based apparel brand MAN-TLE, at style department a select store in the back streets of Shibuya. The second half of this exhibition period will be held at style department Osaka.

Kiokuteki Sansaku Spring Market
A Spring Market event by the lifestyle rebuilding team Kiokuteki Sansaku will be held in Omotesando Gaienmae. This is a large event with over 30 exhibitors from various interior shops selling furniture, lifestyle products, and art, from all over the country!
JAU will be exhibiting on Sunday, March the 2nd. We plan to offer a wide range of items, including Australian designed planters, incense, art posters, and incense holders. Come by and find some wonderful items by small businesses and creators!

Addition Studio
Ryan Hanrahan is the man behind Addition Studio, a multi-discipline design house that effortlessly melds earthy, rugged Australiana motifs with a modern sensibility. Addition Studio was formed in 2010 and began producing furniture, lighting, wellness products, and works that combine aromatic items with contemporary sculpture. Ryan's driving motivations are health and wellbeing, ancient rituals, sculptural aesthetics, and modern art that's as practical as it is beautiful. Organic but made to serve its user, Addition Studio's items are useful, sensory, and proudly designed in Australia.

To the interested reader,
I moved from Sydney to Tokyo in 2016 to immerse myself in a culture where craftsmanship is highly valued, and creativity is abundant. After enjoying a few years of appreciating Japanese design, I decided to also look at design back home in Australia.
What I found is that Australia is also home to many talented designers and artisans – this fact is unknown to many in Japan. I decided that Australian talent deserves more exposure overseas. I wanted to create a cultural bridge between Japan and Australia – through the sharing of design stories from Australian designers (and eventually stories from Japanese designers too).
JAU's goal is to showcase the best of Australian design and culture. We hope to bring you closer to the spirit of Australian designers by sharing their story, inspirations, and design processes.
Beyond sharing stories, doing right by the environment is a major motivation of ours.
We're living in a throwaway culture; the environment pays the price – we must value what we have. If people understand how much work and effort goes into producing an object, then they are less likely to throw it out.
I firmly believe in owning things that have a timeless aesthetic. Timeless objects don't go out of fashion, they remain beautiful, no matter the trend of the current day. There is no need to replace something that never dates – it's always beautiful.
As part of our commitment to the environment, we donate 1% of revenue to "1% For The Planet", an organisation that assists in positive environmental action around the world.
